Winterville
and West Raleigh Blue have a long state tournament history together. The first
meeting came in the 2012 7U state title game, and then the two teams met twice
in the 2013 state tournament. This year’s meeting came in front of hundreds of
fans and hundreds of thousands of bugs in the second game of state tournament
pool play in Snow Hill.
This
time, 9U Blue brought the bats, hammering 14 hits in four innings in a 21-0
victory. Part of the credit for the offensive explosion has to go to
Chick-fil-A, which fueled over half the team between games. But wait—they didn’t
make any money on it. After some direction by the Gallaher girls, this
was the scene as 9U Blue racked up even more free food:
It’s
probably not a coincidence that all five of the pitchers who combined on a
no-hitter against Winterville are shown in the above photo. As soon as Saturday’s
starting pitcher is identified, we will deliver his spots and cow noses
directly to him.
Friday’s
2-0 record means West Raleigh can clinch the top seed in the pool with a
victory over Roanoke Rapids on Saturday at 4 p.m.

a sac fly that scored Gavin. Joey walked. Elias picked up his third straight
